When I learned to speak the language of the body, everything changed.
About Me
MIND
I am a life-long learner who has benefited from a tremendously privileged education. I have a PhD and MA from the University of Southern California and a BA from Brown University. I was a Fulbright scholar and my dissertation received the top two awards in my field of communication studies. My first book was published by Duke University Press. I did my post-doc at UC Irvine and held a tenure-track position at Cal State Northridge. Along the way I learned from and was supported by so many brilliant and generous teachers, human and non-human, that I cannot name them all here. I am forever grateful to you all.
In my late 30s I experienced a physical and mental health crisis at the onset of early perimenopause which landed me on a path of healing, self-exploration, and reeducation. I realized I needed to become more embodied.
BODY
I am of European settler decent, born and raised on the unceded territory of the Abenaki, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, the people of the dawnland. After living in New York City and Los Angeles among other places, I returned to my homeland of Vermont with my partner and two young girls.
I am now an independent licensed Ishtara® embodiment teacher, a certified Reiki Master/Teacher in the Usui and Karuna lineages, and the founder of the Energetic Literacy Project. ELP grew out of my frustration at how little I had been taught - despite all of my education - about my nervous system and how energy was moving (or stagnating) in my body. Energy is the first language of the body, and it connects everything in the cosmos. Learning to speak this language and to be deeply embodied has changed everything in my life.
SPIRIT
I am a soulful, heart-led, intuitive seeker of love and wisdom. An unapologetic nerd. I love the earth and the stars. I thrive in deep connection and profound experiences. I love to dance, sing, and make music. I desire to be in service to the collective good. And to have fun while doing so. I value and work for community. I am an emergent ritualist. I believe that rites of passage are crucial parts of humaning well. I believe we are capable of experiencing and creating so much more than most of us were taught.
