How Do We Human Better?

Explorations of conscious embodiment, energy, and midlife.

Somatic Educator, Author, Founder, Energetic Literacy Project

Society as we know it is changing faster than ever, and many of us are asking: What does it mean to human (v.) better?

What if the most under-utilized intelligence we have isn't artificial, but energetic? And what if our human bodies are better guides through life's challenges and thresholds than we've been taught to believe?

I'm a somatic educator fascinated by energetic intelligence — the capacity to consciously work with energy in our bodies and environments for greater ease, impact, connectedness, and wellbeing.

I come to this work as a former professor of communication and social change, Fulbright grantee, and the author of Youth Power in Precarious Times (Duke, 2020). These days I'm the co-founder of the Energetic Literacy Project and creator of Body of Fire, a rite-of-passage program for the peri/menopausal journey.

I'm also a cisgendered woman partnered with a gender-expansive person, a mother of two, and a descendant of European settlers living and working on the unceded lands of the Abenaki peoples known as Vermont.

I'm glad you're here.

This blog explores how we might human better — informed by innovative researchers and practitioners, a range of cultures and historical moments, and nature herself. We'd love to hear your thoughts.
